Liturgy

Members work with the Music Director to oversee the choices of music and liturgical embellishments for regular and seasonal Masses and other services. Members assist with training of the Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist, lectors, and ushers and Altar Servers. With the pastor, the Committee plans liturgical events for unforeseen circumstances, such as a memorial for national disasters or emergencies.

There are many aspects to the liturgy that parishioners can get involved in; they are Lay Eucharistic Ministers, Lectors, the Music Ministry, AV and streaming ministry and altar servers.

All parishioners are welcome  to these ministries and should contact the office or use the links below to find out more.

AV Ministry is a visual aid during Mass so parishioners can participate fully in the Mass. It is present during most weekend and Holiday Masses and for funerals.

Streaming is done on special occasions and when requested by the bereavement committee [Pam Wobrock 518-421-7811]. The need for volunteer backups is always present.

Altar Servers

Matt Levine, (518)273-7602 ext. 102, youthministry@olvols.org

The Altar Server Ministry is a special way for young people and adults to participate more fully in the sacred liturgy. Altar servers assist the priest and deacon during Mass by carrying the cross and candles, holding the book of prayers, preparing the altar, and helping to ensure that the celebration flows with reverence and dignity.

Serving at the altar is more than a task - it is a ministry of prayer, presence, and example. Servers help lead the assembly in worship through their attentive posture, their quiet reverence, and their joy in serving the Lord. They are called to reflect the love of Christ by their actions and to grow in holiness through their service.

Qualities of an Altar Server:

  • A love for the Mass (weekly attendance) and a desire to serve the Church.
  • Reverence, attentiveness, and a willingness to learn.
  • Responsibility in arriving on time and serving when scheduled.
  • A spirit of teamwork and flexibility, especially when filling in as needed.
