Job Title: Director of Faith Formation and Youth Ministry (1-6 Catechetical Program, 7-10 Youth Ministry)
Reports To: Pastor
Summary:
The Pastoral Associate for Faith Formation/Youth Ministry is responsible for planning, directing and administering a catechetical program for children/youth and their families in grades K- 10 and working with the parish to develop a comprehensive youth ministry for grades 6 -10 youth.
Responsibilities include:
- Planning and directing a comprehensive faith formation program for Grades K- 12 grades
- Planning and coordinating sacramental preparation programs for First Reconciliation, First Eucharist, and Confirmation, including parent and sponsor programs
- Assisting the parish to plan sacramental celebrations
- Recruiting, supervising, and supporting catechists and other volunteers in program areas.
- Overseeing the formation and certification of catechists by assisting them to participate in the deanery and diocesan catechist formation
- Selecting catechetical texts and resources for faith formation/youth ministry programs
- Assisting parents and families to nurture their own faith journey and to support their role as primary educators of their children
- Maintaining a family perspective in all programs and processes
- Overseeing all administrative tasks including record keeping, background checks, permission forms, and catechist records for this ministry
- Developing and administering the catechetical/youth ministry budget in collaboration with the Pastoral Associate
- Maintaining a safe environment for children, youth, and volunteers
- Supervising, with the assistance of gatekeepers, parish facilities when programs are present
- Participating in the parish Pastoral Council and Prayer and Worship Committee
- Working collaboratively with the pastor, parish staff, pastoral council, and other designated parish committees and maintaining communication through written and oral reports and meetings
- Fulfilling any other mutually agreed upon responsibilities
Preferred Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Bachelor’s degree in religious education, related field, or comparable experience
- An active member of a Roman Catholic faith community in good standing who participates fully in the communal worship and life of the Church
- Willingness to work toward full certification as a catechetical leader in the Diocese of Albany
- Understanding of and experience in ministry
- Enjoys working with children, youth, and adults
- Ability to work collaboratively
- Good interpersonal relationship skills
- Communicates effectively both verbally and in written
- Good organizational and administrative skills
- Sense of humor
- Able to work evenings and weekends as needed
- Facility with Microsoft applications: e.g., Word, Excel, Access, Outlook
Physical demands:

Position requires extended periods of sitting and working at a computer, ability to move about in an office environment, ability to operate office equipment, e.g., phone, computer, printer; occasional lifting up to 25 pounds
